Ibuprofen, the leading ingredient in Advil, has been repeatedly proven to reduce pain safely and effectively when taken as directed. The power of Advil is combined with decongestants and antihistamines, not only to relieve pain associated with colds and allergies, but also to fight other related symptoms that are holding you back.

How Our Products Compare

While there are many pain relievers available for sale without a prescription, it is important to know the differences between them. The pain reliever in Advil is ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) that most people use to reduce headaches, treat soreness and eliminate pain throughout the body. Tylenol, on the other hand, contains acetaminophen, a drug that works differently from ibuprofen.

Prostaglandins enable the brain to recognize painful stimuli including fever and inflammation. Cyclooxygenase (COX) is an enzyme that produces prostaglandins (PGs) which signal pain. Ibuprofen is classified as an antiinflammatory drug, because it partially blocks the COX enzyme and inhibits synthesis of PGs.

Ibuprofen can also ease aches and pains related to cold and allergies including headaches and sinus pain, and, as some studies suggest, ibuprofen is better for reducing fevers than acetaminophen.

In addition to the host of painfighting benefits associated with ibuprofen, Advil cold and allergy relief products combine decongestants and antihistamines to treat cold and allergy symptoms.

Our cold and congestion products feature the effective decongestants phenylephrine or pseudophedrive, which reduce swelling and allow the nasal and sinus airways to expand to their natural state to permit easier breathing, while our allergy products utilize the antihistamine chlorpheniramine that helps prevent the release of the chemical that causes allergy symptoms and relieves the upper respiratory symptoms associated with allergies.

The result is a winning combination that offers fast, effective relief of even the toughest cold and allergy symptoms with just one tablet. So, you never stop for a cold or allergies again – Advil at Work.
